可能是未做足「功課」便開始飼養;
可能是資訊太多誤信坊間謠言;
About US
As more and more people keep hedgehogs in Hong Kong, cases of abandonment have also increased.
( Pet hedgehogs have been available in Hong Kong for more than two decades. In the past ten years, unofficial statistics indicate that there have been at least a hundred hedgehogs stay in HK each year. From 2017 to 2024, our association received reports of more than 170 cases of abandonment.)
A group of volunteers established the association in 2016 with the goal of rescuing abandoned hedgehogs and helping owners in need. We hope to provide a platform and a more organized way to assist hedgehogs and their owners.
As time goes by, this association has also noticed two major problems:
1. Most daily issues stem from the owner's lack of information.
This may result from starting to breed without doing enough "homework" or
from being overwhelmed by too much information, leading to the belief in misconceptions.
2. Many struggle to maintain their hedgehogs' "personal (heggie)" hygiene due the animals' temperament and characteristics.
Some owners have personal issue, such as poor eyesight or a lack of confidence in handling their pets.
To address these issues, our exotic veterinary nurses decided to offer different "Hedgehog Classes" regularly.
These classes cover precautions and key points for raising hedgehogs, as well as daily care.
We teach owners step-by-step how to properly handle the of small animals, improving their welfare and quality of life through education
The association also regularly provides nurse care services to help owners who struggle with basic hedgehog hygiene.
To enhance the welfare and quality of life for hedgehogs in Hong Kong, we recognize the importance of raising public awareness. Therefore, we regularly visit different schools and institutions to give lectures. In addition to discussing hedgehogs, we also educate about animal welfare and rights.
